Who Wants to Read what You want to Write?

Before you can own your niche you need to clearly define the niche and who are the potential readers?  In fiction, most people who buy novels are females, the majority over 40 years of age and with some college or a degree. The vast majority of these women had worked outside the home at some point in their lives but have strong family ties. These are women who are looking for people like them that they can root for.

It was no accident that for my protagonist I selected a female, college grad, who gave up her promising career to raise her kids. Then, after the children had all moved out, the husband dumped her. This “Every Woman” resonated with my target audience.
